AIA Convention 2015:
Join us May 14 for a keynote address by President Bill Clinton, Founder of the Clinton Foundation, and 42nd President of the United States.
William Jefferson Clinton was the first Democratic president in six decades to be elected twice – first in 1992 and then in 1996. Under his leadership, the country enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs.
After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote health and wellness, and protect the environment.
In addition to his Foundation work, President Clinton has served as the top United Nations envoy for the Indian Ocean tsunami recovery effort and as the UN Special Envoy to Haiti. Today, the Clinton Foundation is supporting economic growth, capacity building, and education in Haiti.
President Clinton was born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas. He and his wife Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have one daughter, Chelsea, and live in Chappaqua, New York.
Two of the world's most creative communicators share their insights and strategies on Day Two of AIA Convention 2015. You’ll learn how embracing failure and finding your narrative arc can generate new ideas and push you—and teams—to greater success.
Welby Altidor is Executive Creative Director for one of the world’s most creative companies, Cirque de Soleil. Known for dazzling innovation and acts of breathtaking daring, his business is anything but ordinary—and yet, argues Altidor, anyone can learn to take creativity to the next level and radically challenge the status quo.
Is fear of failure holding you back? Are you interested in pushing boundaries, but unsure how? An eclectic thinker with business acumen, Altidor will explain how to tap your creative courage through engagement, collaboration, and controlled failure. Through this powerful keynote, discover a new mindset—and make a greater impact through your work.
Julie Dixon, an expert in the art of compelling communications, knows what makes a good story—and how to infuse a visual design with all the drama and meaning of a blockbuster novel. She'll share strategies for engaging audiences and inspiring them to react.
A pioneer of digital storytelling and online engagement, Dixon is the Research Director of National Journal's Communications Council, where she leads a team that provides data and insights to strategically support communications executives within advocacy organizations. Drawing on her experiences in the social advocacy space, she'll explain why finding the right storyline improves your ability to create environments with impact.
Join us on the final day of convention for a unique keynote panel moderated by multi-Emmy-nominated investigative journalist and Fox Business Network anchor Trish Regan. She’ll moderate a high-energy, dynamic discussion on the business of architecture.
The panel will explore topics including how firms stay successful for the long term, how innovators in the field stay creative while managing the demands of a business, and what you can do to make your firm profitable, whatever your role.
This is a rare opportunity to get practical, expert advice from architects who rose to the top in spite of professional challenges.
Katherine Darnstadt, AIA, founded Latent Design in 2010. Five years later, she’s redefining the role of the architect, taking on projects like the Hope Center for Girls, a $10M design project that includes development of an academic curriculum, and transforming a city bus into a mobile produce market. Her work has been published, featured, and exhibited widely.
Steven Ehrlich, FAIA, is an award-winning architect, founding partner of Ehrlich Architects, and a self-proclaimed “architectural anthropologist.” Early in his career, Ehrlich learned the significance of how architecture responds to culture and environment, which still influences the firm’s work today. He is a Visiting Professor at USC and the Regnier Distinguished Visiting Chair at Kansas State University.
Curtis J. Moody, FAIA, President and CEO of Moody Nolan, launched his firm during depressed economy. One year later, the firm had grown to nine staff. Over his 41-year career, Moody has been involved in the design of several billion dollars in construction and won more than 200 design citations and awards. He is a peer reviewer for the GSA Design Excellence Program.
Mark Ripple, AIA, is a Partner and Director of Operations at Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, where he has completed a wide range of large, multidisciplinary projects. Ripple’s tenacious commitment to project expectations and delivery—no matter how restrictive—has accelerated his 30+ year career and helped the firm more than double its staff since Hurricane Katrina
